Founded in 1968 by Christian Quéré, Hydro-Armor is a family-owned business based in Plouezoc’h, Brittany, that designs, develops, and produces hydraulic thrusters. Renowned for its expertise in hydraulic technologies, Hydro-Armor designs, develops, produces, and tests complex hydraulic systems and solutions. Its design office, testing capabilities, and factory enable it to deliver custom-made, cutting-edge products that are highly reliable and durable.
Hydro-Armor designs a wide range of thrusters with power ratings from 30 to 500 kW. It offers different versions adapted to specific requirements: tunnel thrusters, azimuth 'pod' thrusters, tiltable thrusters, and retractable thrusters. With a combined maximum lifting capacity of up to 3 meters, these thrusters are ideally suited to both river and maritime use, fully meeting propulsion requirements across a wide range of applications. Beyond offering great flexibility in use, hydraulic propulsion provides vessels with excellent maneuverability, superior hydrodynamic efficiency, and easy maintenance. In environmental terms, these hydraulic solutions also improve energy efficiency and durability.
Hydro-Armor has recently developed a hybrid propulsion solution (hydraulic and electric) that helps preserve marine ecosystems by significantly reducing polluting emissions. Two vessels have been equipped with this system to date. Hydro-Armor also designs and manufactures a range of marine cranes for shellfish farming, with capacities ranging from 6 to 60 t/m. These cranes are specifically designed for the marine environment and are BV NR526-certified, offering several advantages: continuous 360° rotation with no blind spots, high slewing torque, and a control station that can be mounted on the crane or separated. The company is a unique player in a vast and expanding market, encompassing river transport of goods and passengers, aquaculture, shellfish farming, and support vessels for offshore wind platforms.
