– SME Optimism: 94% of SME executives remain confident but too focused on France.

– 2024 movement towards international markets: 57% of executives want to strengthen their international activity (+7 points).

– 2024 heading for Europe: 67% of SME executives wish to expand in Europe (+12 points), compared to 7% in the United States (down 3%) and 9% in Asia.

– Growing reserve regarding Asia: The world's leading economic zone is by far the region where French SMEs least wish to expand (+12 points).

– Seniority, the key to successful international expansion: 83% of SME executives attribute their lag in exports to a lack of seniority within their teams.

– 2024 Olympic Games, a window of opportunity for exports: 48% of SME executives believe that the 2024 Olympics will be an opportunity for the international development of their activities.

This edition of the barometer shows that French SMEs are ready to conquer new markets, provided they strengthen and add seniority to their export sales teams. Despite a mixed year in 2023, exports are picking up in 2024, particularly towards Western Europe.
