– SME Optimism: 94% of SME executives remain confident, but are too focused on France.

– 2024 movement towards international markets: 57% of executives want to boost their international activity (+7 points).

– 2024 focus on Europe: 67% of SME executives want to expand to Europe (+12 points), while 7% are interested in the United States (down 3%) and 9% in Asia.

– Growing reservations about Asia: The world's leading economic zone is by far the region where French SMEs do not want to expand (+12 points).

– Seniority, the key to successful international expansion: 83% of SME executives attribute their lag in exports to a lack of seniority on their teams.

– 2024 Olympic Games, a window of opportunity for exports: 48% of SME executives believe that the 2024 Olympics will provide an opportunity for international development.

This edition of the barometer shows that French SMEs are ready to conquer new markets, provided they bolster their export sales teams and add experienced staff. Despite mixed results in 2023, exports are picking up in 2024, particularly to Western Europe.
