Jean-Mathieu started in M&A at Société Générale before focusing on private equity with different teams. In 30 years, Jean-Mathieu has supported more than 70 companies with a common thread: innovation and international growth.

Ten years ago, Jean-Mathieu became convinced of the critical role internal expansion plays in a company’s development and viability, creating the first fund for French exporting firms, or firms that want to export. Capital Export combines equity, grants and subsidies, expertise, and local networks and partners to directly meet the needs of business owners and managers with a strategy centered around international expansion.

2B Environnement

Recycling of dangerous or critical waste (dangerous wood, biowaste) and production of composite poles

Founded in 1993 by Richard Molina, the 2B Environnement Group specializes in the recycling (collection, treatment, recovery) of infrastructure waste such as concrete poles and Grade C treated wood sleepers, mainly from electrical, telecom, and railway networks. The company has several recycling sites in France and works with high-profile customers. In November 2020, the group acquired a subsidiary that recovers biowaste. In September 2021, the group began producing composite poles to replace recycled poles.

Capital Export invested in 2B Environnement in July 2019. Richard Molina and Jérôme Chalençon, who became CEO in 2017, created a development plan based on 2 major strategic areas:

  • Strengthen and widen the scope of its existing business by increasing processing capacity and adding new shredding units;
  • Expand its current strategic positioning by targeting external growth opportunities, particularly in Europe.

The company management appreciated Capital Export’s people-centered approach and ability to offer strategic support. The collaboration has already borne fruit, leading to an acquisition (BM Environnement, with €6 million in sales in biowaste recovery) and the opening of a new site after winning a tender to produce composite poles, thereby completing the value chain the group has been working on since the beginning.

Capital Export and 2B Environnement are pursuing other growth areas with many ongoing projects in France and abroad.

“We are now on track to achieve our main goal to become a leading player in the highly specialized recycling and environment fields. Thanks to Capital Export’s support and our shared vision, we are pursuing our ambitious development strategy to reach nearly €40 million in sales within 4 years.”

“2B Environnement is the only company positioned in these growing niche markets. We are particularly impressed by Richard Molina’s vision and the quality of the relationship we quickly developed. 2B is now a major player in the field of environmental-related businesses. Additionally, the group’s production of composite poles, which complements its longstanding activity, is significantly increasing its development potential, particularly abroad.”
